Organic Camu Camu: Wholefood Vitamin C

Camu camu, also known as Myrciaria dubia, is a small sour berry with one of the highest concentrations of vitamin C on the planet. Unlike synthetic ascorbic acid (vitamin C) which is highly acidic and derived from processing corn, camu camu provides vitamin C in its true wholefood form. This means it contains the natural enzymes and bioflavanoids that aid assimilation. Our wholefood vitamin C is carefully dried at low temperatures to conserve the bioavailability of the nutrients.

Vitamin C
Vitamin C is a potent water soluble anti-oxidant, which helps to prevent free radical damage. The body cannot synthesise vitamin C and therefore it must be obtained from the diet. Real vitamin C has a wide variety of functions in the body, including:
- Co-factor in collagen synthesis
- Boosts immunity
- Natural anti-histamine
- Enhances wound healing
- Helps regenerate the reduced form of vitamin E
- Contributes to normal energy yielding metabolism
- Nourishes the adrenal glands
Other nutrients
Our camu camu contains the entire wholefood (not extract) which means it provides the naturally occuring minerals and trace elements including:
- Manganese
- Copper
- Magnesium
- Calcium
- Potassium
- Zinc
The fruits also contain phenolic acids, flavonoids (rutin, quercetin), anthocyanins and carotenoids (lutein, beta-carotene, zeaxanthin, and neoxanthin).
FAQ
'What is the capsule size?'
The capsule size is 00. Capsules sizes are named by numerical values, numbered: 000, 00, 0, 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 from biggest to smallest.
'What happens if I take too much?'
Camu camu has a slightly tart taste and mildly acidic pH. Taking too much may therefore cause stomach upset. If this occurs, lower the dose until you reach bowel tolerance. It's worth noting that high doses of any form of vitamin C can have this effect.
'Can I take the powder out of the capsule?'
Absolutely, feel free to mix into smoothies or other.
'Is this the same as ascorbic acid?'
Camu camu provides naturally occuring vitamin C in its wholefood form. There is no synthetic ascorbic acid in our supplement which we do not recommend.
'I've seen other natural vitamin C supplements with high vitamin C, why is that?'
There are a variety of natural vitamin C sources and encapsulation methods which all affect the amount of vitamin C in the product. Many manufacturers opt for extracts or hard encapsulation to obtain higher doses of certain nutrients. This involves dissolving constitutents out of a wholefood using a solvent such as alcohol. We prefer to use the complete wholefood as nature intended so we don't lose any of the pulp in the process. This also means we can maintain our organic certification as extracts are rarely certified. 3 capsules of our camu camu provides around 60mg of vitamin C (150% of RNI).
'What is the maximum number of capsules I can take in one go?'
We recommend taking no more than 3 capsules in one serving or as professionally directed. Some people like to take more than this as it is 100% food based but you should listen to your body and build up slowly.
'Can I take camu camu on an empty stomach?'
You can take camu camu with or away from food depending on what feels best for you. We like to take ours away from food for optimal absorption.
'Can I take more when I'm feeling ill?'
We can't give medical advice however, some of our customers like to take more vitamin C rich foods such as camu camu when they are feeling run down or feel a cold coming on. It is worth noting that vitamin C contributes to normal functioning of the immune system.
